Consultant profile:
John Hull has held three headships and has also been an Associate Headteacher.
His first headships were in schools facing challenging circumstances. He was invited to take up his third headship in a school in Serious Weakness. For seven years from 1986 he was head of Waltheof Campus in Sheffield. He was head for a further seven years of Buttershaw Upper School in Bradford. (Buttershaw was an IQEA school.) In 2000 he returned to Sheffield to work as Associate Head in the LEA's School Effectiveness Service: his remit was to assist the leaders of "schools which required additional support". He took up his last, and temporary, headship at Myers Grove in Sheffield leading the school through a successful Ofsted Inspection which deemed the school to be "rapidly improving".
John was, from 2001-04, a member of the Leadership Development Unit of Manchester University which was commissioned by DfES to support Leadership Development Grant (LIG) activities and to assist in other school improvement initiatives. He was a LIG Consultant to Collaboratives in Barnsley and Sheffield.
John has worked within schools as a leader and also has experience of offering support and advice from without. He was (2004-06) a part time member of Barnsley’s Secondary Strategy Team and a School Improvement Adviser.
His out-of-school interests are running, sport, current affairs and avid, and occasionally agonizing, support of Manchester City
